The organization

A major component of the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development (AASD) involves facilitating immersive educational experiences for high school and university-level students. Each year, the AASD, in partnership with Raices Andinas, hosts 8-12 student groups as part of our Experiential Learning (EL) program.

Additionally, Raices Andinas designs and runs itineraries for tourism groups, including excursions to Machu Picchu.

This is a part‑time, on‑site position that involves assisting with the planning, promoting, coordinating, and facilitation of AASD/Raices Experiential Learning programs from the AASD office in Calca, Peru. The position reports to the Director of Experiential Learning.

Asthefocusofthispositionisexperientiallearning,applicantswithabackgroundin internationaland experientialeducation,particularlyamonghighschoolandcollege aged students, will be given primary consideration.

Required Qualifications

- Fluency in English, both spoken and written
- Advanced proficiency in Spanish (spoken)
- Passion for locally‑led, community‑based development and a desire to contribute in substantive ways to initiatives and around the Sacred Valley (previous knowledge of Quechua community is a plus)
- Experience teaching or facilitating student groups, preferably in residential or experiential settings
- Strong interpersonal and cross‑cultural communication skills
- Demonstrated success working in close‑knit, collaborative, and multicultural environments
- Successful record of working independently to prioritize deadlines
- Adaptable and adaptable to quickly evolving project demands
- Ability to multitask, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and problem‑solve quickly and independently
- Minimum two‑year commitment

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience creating budgets, proficient use of excel, designing presentations and promotional materials, and maintaining electronic records
- Knowledge of the Andean cultural, environmental, and political contexts




- Awareness of development challenges within indigenous and agricultural communities
- Quechua language is a plus
- Living in Calca and eligibility to work in Peru is a plus

Job Responsibilities Include:

I. Program Support and Logistics

- Assist with homestay and hotel accommodations for students and tourists, including communication with lodging providers regarding arrival dates, numbers of students, and dietary restrictions/special needs
- Assist in the planning and scheduling of meals, purchasing of snacks, and monitoring necessary supplies and materials for both; assist with scheduling AASD/Raices cooks and communicating dietary restrictions, special needs, and timing for both on‑site and field‑based meals
- Assist with coordinating student transportation, including communication with AASD/Raices transport providers.
- Identify and help organize local cultural activities for students
- Oversee and stock inventory of safety equipment (goggles, gloves, first‑aid kits, etc.).
- Prepare field materials for trips to communities (water, snacks, first‑aid kit, safety equipment, etc.)
- Determine and assist in acquiring tool/equipment needs for service projects in communities
- Maintain detailed records and receipts of program‑related purchases and expenses

II. Program Facilitation

- Assist with program implementation for student groups during field and community‑based learning, service projects, and cultural activities
- Guide student groups on hikes and occasional overnight trips in the Andes
- Transport all materials (water, snacks, first‑aid kit, safety equipment, etc.) to and from program site(s)
- Translate between community members and students/participants when necessary
- Ensure participants carry out service works safely and have the necessary equipment to do so (goggles, gloves, etc.)
- Provide post‑program review and constructive feedback

III. Program Development and Outreach

- Contribute to social media content development
- Conduct research into potential service‑learning partnerships and funding opportunities

Attend and support planning of AASD/Raices community events or meetings
