San Silvestre School is seeking a General Science Teacher with Biology who can build positive teacher-student relationships and establish an engaging learning culture that supports the progress of all students. The successful candidate will teach Lower School General Science, Chemistry to IGCSE level (Cambridge syllabus), and potentially post-16 courses (International Baccalaureate or internal programme).

Key Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

- Teaching Qualification: Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, Ed.M. or equivalent).
- Education: A good Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Biology or a subject closely related to Biology.
- Teaching Practice: Evidence of being, or having the potential to be, an excellent secondary school teacher.
- Interpersonal Skills: A positive approach to guiding students, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- EdTech Proficiency: Excellent IT skills, specifically with Google Workspace for Education and Google Classroom.

Desirable:

- Postgraduate Qualification: Master’s or postgraduate degree in a relevant subject.
- Curriculum Experience:



Experience with or knowledge of the English National Curriculum.
- Advanced Level Teaching: Experience teaching Biology at IGCSE and/or IB Diploma Programme level, as well as supervising IB Extended Essays.
- EAL Support: Experience working with English as an Additional Language (EAL) pupils.
- EdTech Certifications: Google Educator Level 1 or 2 Certification and experience using Atlas Curriculum Management.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver Lower School General Science and IGCSE Chemistry.
- Plan and facilitate adaptive learning to support diverse student needs and language competencies.
- Assess, record, and report on student progress while providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Safeguard student wellbeing in accordance with child protection and health and safety policies.
- Contribute to extracurricular activities, duty rosters, and broader school events.
