ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

The World Food Programme (WFP) Peru Country Office supports the Government of Peru in addressing food security and nutrition challenges, while strengthening national systems and resilience to shocks. Although Peru has achieved important progress as an upper middle-income country, significant disparities persist, particularly affecting rural populations, indigenous communities, and vulnerable groups in the Andean and Amazon regions.

Peru remains highly exposed to climate-related hazards, including recurrent El Niño events, floods, droughts, and landslides, which continue to impact food security, livelihoods, and infrastructure. In addition, the country faces increasing pressures from regional migration flows, particularly from Venezuela, which place additional strain on social protection systems and basic service delivery.

Within this context, WFP Peru’s Country Strategic Plan focuses on supporting national priorities through technical assistance, capacity strengthening, and targeted interventions. Key areas of engagement include strengthening shock-responsive social protection systems, improving nutrition outcomes, enhancing emergency preparedness and response capacities, and promoting resilient and sustainable food systems.
