Job Description / Essential Elements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

• Credential

California credential authorizing school counseling service

• Education

Sufficient to meet credential requirements

Knowledge And Abilities

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff,

students, parents, and the public contacted in performance of duties

• Demonstrated working knowledge of curriculum
• Knowledge of registration procedures
• Knowledge of counseling objectives, principles and procedures
• Ability to listen to students with patience and understanding
• Ability to identify and determine the basic nature of student problems

and needs and provide assistance

• Ability to provide career guidance and counseling on an individual basis
• Ability to collect and analyze test data, conduct studies, keep records,

and prepare reports

• Knowledge of the ancillary services within the school and how they

relate to the program





• Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel
• Ability to speak and write effectively

Duties And Responsibilities

• Management Area
• Registration
• Articulation and Orientation
• Determine individual needs of students
• Account of individual progress
• Direct Services
• Study student characteristics
• Counsel students
• Confer with parents
• Group guidance
• Provide coordinative and consultative functions to teachers, students

and administration

• Be willing to participate in professional inservice (i.e. college admission,

vocational opportunities/program and professional guidance organization)

Requirements / Qualifications

Appropriate California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing in School Counseling *Required*
