Organizational context: The UN Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Lima, Peru, operates under the UN's global reform to effectively achieve the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. Empowered by the UN Resident Coordinator, RCOs support countries in their development priorities. This role, situated within the RCO, collaborates with the SDG Policy and Financing Section and the Regional Policy Analyst to ensure alignment with UN 2.0 priorities.

Job purpose: The Economist provides substantive economic analysis and evidence-based advice on sustainable development, economic transformation, and SDG financing to support the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and UN Country Team (UNCT) in Peru. This involves researching and analyzing economic data, identifying challenges and opportunities for SDG acceleration, and supporting the implementation of integral guidelines. The role contributes to integrated UN policy support, promotes inclusive economic development, and prepares knowledge products on macroeconomic trends and SDG financing.

Additionally, the Economist supports partnerships with national counterparts and stakeholders, contributes to the UN sustainable development programming cycle, and facilitates knowledge management and learning on economic transformation and SDG financing, aligning with UN 2.0 capabilities.

Responsibilities: The Economist is responsible for providing substantive economic analysis and evidence-based advice on sustainable development, economic transformation, and SDG financing. This includes researching and analyzing economic and social data, identifying trends, and supporting the RC and UNCT in developing policy options for SDG acceleration. The role involves supporting the implementation of global guidelines, preparing analytical and briefing materials,



and identifying entry points for integrated UN policy support.

The Economist will also monitor economic developments, analyze the role of the private sector in sustainable transformation, and research innovative financing approaches. Furthermore, the position supports partnerships and engagement with national counterparts and stakeholders, contributes economic and financing analysis to the UN sustainable development programming cycle (CCA, UNSDCF), and aids in knowledge management and learning activities related to economic transformation and SDG financing.

Education: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Economics is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A degree or program completion in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or Data Science is considered an advantage.

Work experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in economic research, analysis, macroeconomic/socioeconomic policy, or development economics is required.

Experience in conducting economic/policy analysis and translating trends into actionable recommendations is essential.

Experience in SDG financing, development finance, or innovative financing approaches is desirable, as is experience supporting strategic planning or policy development with government institutions or development partners.

Skills: Professionalism in applying sustainable development theories, identifying and resolving issues, conducting data collection and analysis, and using research sources. Planning and organizing skills to set goals, prioritize tasks, and manage resources efficiently. Client orientation to understand and meet client needs, build partnerships, and maintain effective communication.
