We are looking for an energetic and highly organized Creative & Visual Arts Assistant to join our team and support the heart of our cultural community across Primary and Secondary sections.
Responsible to: Head of Middle and Senior Sections
Internal relationships: SLT, Heads of Department, Learning Support Coordinator and Middle and Senior Section Teachers.
The Role The Director of Teaching and Learning plays a central role in elevating the quality of education across the Middle and Senior sections. The role focuses on strengthening pedagogy, particularly in the areas of professional development, literacy provision, and high-quality feedback, ensuring that teaching reflects both research-informed approaches and the diverse needs of learners.
Through coaching, collaboration, and strategic leadership, the Director of Teaching and Learning enhances instructional practice across departments and supports teachers in creating engaging, equitable, and impactful learning experiences for all students.
Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership of Teaching and Learning
● In conjunction with SLT, the school’s vision for high-quality teaching and learning.
● Lead whole-school and sectional improvement initiatives aligned with academic priorities.
● Plan and deliver the section CPD programmes.
● Ensure consistency in teaching quality across departments and year groups.
● Monitor marking and feedback quality, ensuring standards and consistency.
● Work closely with the Teaching and Learning Leads in other Sections of the school.
Coaching, Mentoring, and Supporting Teachers
● Observe lessons and provide developmental feedback.
● Mentor early career teachers or teachers needing support.
● Model effective teaching strategies and evidence-based practices.
● Facilitate professional learning communities or instructional coaching cycles.
● Foster a culture of continuous learning among staff through collaboration,
sharing of resources, and reflective practices.
Curriculum Development and Pedagogical Guidance
● Work with wider SMT to support and oversee curriculum design to ensure progression, coherence, and alignment with across Secondary.
● Support teachers in curriculum review, design, adaptation and implementation of teaching activities.
● Promote research-informed teaching practices.
Quality Assurance and Evaluation
● Lead whole-school learning walks, observations, and book looks.
● Take part in the Annual Departmental Learning Review processes.
● Monitor the impact of teaching initiatives and interventions.
● Ensure teaching is consistent with the school’s policies and academic standards.
● Share findings to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Professional Development and Capacity Building
● Design annual CPD plans.
● Coordinate INSET days, and workshop week.
● Provide training on pedagogy, assessment, and curriculum.
● Build staff capacity through workshops, coaching, and peer observations.
Student Learning Experience
● Ensure students have access to effective learning environments.
● Support strategies for student wellbeing as it relates to learning.
● Promote student voice in teaching and learning.
● Oversee intervention programmes for targeted learners.
● Have a classroom teaching timetable, limited in line with other school responsibilities and requirements.
Knowledge and Competencies Required
Qualifications / Experience:
● Bachelor's Degree plus Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent).
● Secondary School teaching experience with a demonstrable history of improving Teaching and Learning outcomes.
● Ability to communicate and teach in fluent English (first language English speaker preferred).
● Proven leadership experience within a Secondary School setting, ideally managing change initiatives, or teaching and learning improvement.
● Strong technological skills including knowledge of Google Suite tools and assistive technologies.
● Understanding of innovative educational practices that facilitate effective teaching, learning, and systemic inclusion.
● Detailed knowledge and experience of curriculum development.
● A strong understanding of Secondary School assessment and tracking, including knowledge of standardized assessments (GL Assessments: CAT4, PASS, PTM, PTE, and NGRT) and an ability to interpret equity gaps and plan institutional actions based on the data generated.
Desirable:
● Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
● Experience with iSAMs and the Atlas Planning platform.
● A recognized Middle/Senior Leadership qualification, such as the NPQSL/NPQH.
● Experience in the appraisal of staff (e.g., conducting learning walks, monitoring co-teaching models, classroom observation, individual self-reflection meetings, and providing kind and constructive written/oral feedback).
● Experience in facilitating whole-school Continuing Professional Development frameworks.
● Ability to speak Spanish; basic oral and written desirable; a willingness to learn is imperative.
