The community engagement and digital activism specialist will be in charge of strengthening and maintaining a network of Oceana’s allies, including volunteers, activist, environmental groups, educational institutions, among others. He or she will be responsible for corresponding with existing enthusiasts, recruiting new supporters, engaging youth and developing digital activists who identify with and support initiatives to ensure a healthy ocean and sustainable fisheries in Peru.

The role aims to strengthen public knowledge and spark citizen engagement on issues related to marine conservation, expand the organization’s advocacy capacity, and build strategic alliances with universities, youth organizations, and civil society actors. This is a one year contract with the possibility of extention.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to Oceana's Deputy Vice President and Communications Director, to achieve campaign goals that require building support from different stakeholders and civil society groups.




- Build and maintain Oceana's alliances and relations with environmental activists and groups, university groups, community leaders, among other stakeholders, including but not limited to regular and effective communication, coordination of activities and public statements.
- Organize and host presentations to potential activist and collectives about Oceana’s overall mission and campaigns in Peru to enable informed public support for Oceana’s work.
- Participate and assist in the development and implementation of citizen engagement plans to accomplish campaign goals.
- Identify needs and design and implement training programs to strengthen the communication and advocacy capacities of artisanal fishing stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities and develop strategic alliances with educational instituions to strengthen the knowledge of relevant actors and the public on marine conservation and sustainable fishing.
