Knowledge Engineer at BairesDev
In this role, you'll take the semantics currently living in the heads of BI and finance teams and turn them into an ontology and semantic layer that AI agents can reliably rely on, represented as code instead of remaining tribal knowledge. Working closely with data and AI engineers, you'll extract undocumented meaning from stakeholders and formalize it into a structured, queryable layer. This is your opportunity to bring genuine structure to organizational knowledge, building the semantic foundation that makes natural language queries across data warehouses actually work.
What You'll Do
- Design ontologies and taxonomies over enterprise data.
- Model semantic layers to enable natural language query across warehouses.
- Build knowledge graphs applying graph theory principles.
- Elicit undocumented semantics from BI and finance stakeholders.
- Support data lineage and stewardship practices.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers, AI engineers,
and internal teams.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in knowledge engineering or ontology design.
- Strong proficiency in OWL (Web Ontology Language).
- Hands-on experience with Protégé or WebProtégé for ontology and taxonomy design over enterprise data.
- Experience with RDF and SPARQL for semantic layer modeling.
- Background in knowledge graph modeling and applied graph theory.
- Experience with data lineage and stewardship practices.
- Strong stakeholder elicitation skills to extract undocumented semantics.
- Familiarity with OpenMetadata.
- Advanced proficiency in English.
Nice To Have
- Experience with pgVector and embedding-based retrieval.
- Familiarity with Great Expectations.
- Experience with Neptune or Apache Gremlin.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Invoicing and financial domain vocabulary knowledge.
How we do make your work (and your life) easier:
- 100% remote work (from anywhere).
- Excellent compensation in USD or your local currency if preferred
- Hardware and software setup for you to work from home.
- Flexible hours: create your own schedule.
