Role Purpose

The Security Manager (Security Adviser) is responsible for providing expert advice and support to the National Museum of Australia on all aspects of protective security, excluding cyber security. The Security Manager will play a key role in ensuring the museum's people, information, and assets are protected from a range of threats, in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).

Key Accountabilities

Security Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain the museum's protective security risk management framework, including conducting risk assessments and implementing control strategies.
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with the PSPF.
- Provide authoritative advice and guidance to museum staff on all aspects of protective security.
- Establish and maintain a strong security awareness culture within the museum.
- Oversee security incident reporting, investigation, and response processes.




- Liaise with the precinct security group, relevant government agencies and industry bodies on security matters.

Personal Security
- Develop and implement personnel security procedures, including pre-employment screening, security clearances, and security awareness training.
- Oversee administration of the museum's access control systems, ensuring that only authorised personnel have access to sensitive areas and information.
- Advise on and contribute to the development of insider threat mitigation strategies.

Physical Security
- Conduct regular security assessments of the museum's facilities, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending appropriate security measures.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of physical security controls, including perimeter security, access control, CCTV, and alarm systems.
