Newton
College is looking for a Learning Support Specialist to join our Lower School team in September.
Role Mission
Provide specialized support to students with specific learning needs by identifying learning barriers, implementing access, pedagogical, and curricular adaptations, and designing and monitoring intervention plans, promoting their academic progress, holistic well-being, and active participation in the educational process.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Intervention Plans (PDI) for students with specific levels of support, in coordination with teachers.
- Identify students' learning barriers through ongoing observation, collaboration with teachers, and completion of barrier identification forms.
- Adapt differentiated curricular objectives together with course teachers.
- Plan and carry out individual and group interventions (workshops, individualized plans, in classroom observation and support).
- Work across multiple classes to support individual students and groups of children, ensuring access to high-quality teaching and learning.
- Provide ongoing follow-up on students, including regular meetings with parents and/or external specialists.
- Maintain detailed records that ensure the collection of valuable information that supports the holistic development of the children that are supported
- Manage timely referrals to external professionals when needed.
- Maintain student documentation and case files, ensuring confidentiality.
- Prepare technical reports for case presentations to SAEI
- Design and run individual or group academic support programs.
Key Relationships Strong ability to build effective, collaborative relationships across teachers, psychologists, coordinators, parents, and external specialists.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or Educational Psychology
Preferred Background
- Learning difficulties or related fields
- Inclusion and attention to diversity
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Specialization (preferred)
- Learning Difficulties, Inclusive Education, or Special Education
Experience
- Minimum 3 years as a teacher or educational psychologist
- Minimum 1 year as a learning specialist in a school setting
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of Inclusion and Diversity regulations (preferred)
- Curricular Differentiation (preferred)
- Multi-tiered Systems of Support (preferred)
- Google Suite and Microsoft Office (intermediate level)
- Advanced English proficiency
