For February 2027, Newton College is seeking an outstanding and experienced educational leader for the position of Head of Department – Lower School Spanish. This position requires a highly skilled professional with strong expertise in literacy and language development, instructional leadership, curriculum design, and team management within an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of bilingual and inquiry-based education, a strong commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to lead teachers towards high standards of teaching and learning across Lower School.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the Spanish curriculum across Grades 1–5.
Drive high-quality literacy and language instruction aligned with the IB PYP philosophy.
Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff through coaching, observations, and professional feedback.
Use assessment data strategically to monitor student progress and guide decision-making.
Ensure curriculum continuity, progression,



and alignment with international standards.
Promote collaborative planning and a culture of continuous improvement within the department.
Build strong partnerships with families and contribute actively to the wider school community.

Requirements

Minimum of 6 years of Primary teaching experience, including leadership or coordination responsibilities.
Previous experience within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Strong background in literacy, bilingual education, and language acquisition.
Proven experience leading teams and supporting teacher growth.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Advanced level of English required (CAE minimum).
Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, Leadership, or related field preferred.
