What you'll do
Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Lead incident investigations, analyzing root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Provide training and guidance to employees on health, safety, and environmental practices, ensuring they understand their responsibilities.
Collaborate with project managers and teams to integrate safety into project planning and execution phases.
Prepare and maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions, ensuring documentation is up to date.
Act as the primary point of contact for all health, safety, and environmental matters, liaising with regulatory bodies as necessary.
Monitor and report on safety performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Facilitate safety meetings and workshops, encouraging open communication about safety concerns and suggestions for improvement.
Stay informed about changes in legislation and industry best practices, ensuring the organization adapts accordingly.
Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness in case of incidents.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organization, leading by example.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental management, preferably in a construction or industrial setting.
Strong knowledge of local and international safety regulations and standards.
Proven experience in conducting safety audits and inspections, with a keen eye for detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
Certification in HSE management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is highly desirable.
Proficiency in using safety management software and tools for reporting and documentation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong leadership capabilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
Nice to have
Experience in the construction industry or similar sectors.
Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO ).
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, enhancing communication with diverse teams.
Previous experience in emergency response planning and execution.
Knowledge of ergonomics and workplace safety practices.
Skills & tools
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
Familiarity with safety management software and tools for tracking incidents and compliance.
Strong presentation skills for conducting training sessions and safety meetings.
Ability to analyze data and generate reports to support safety initiatives.
Practical notes
This role is based in Chorrillos, Lima, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
