Position Overview Postdoc in Brain Vascular Research at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Copenhagen. We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a one‑year position, commencing on 1 Oct 2026. This role focuses on brain vascular signalling in health and ischemic stroke, using in‑vivo two‑photon microscopy in an awake rodent model.

Research Context The Cai

Lab studies how the neurovascular unit and neural circuits fail in brain disease and translates this knowledge into new neurotechnologies and therapies.

The research has two connected pillars: cellular mechanisms of neurovascular dysfunction—focus on neurovascular coupling, blood flow regulation, vascular cell signalling in health, ageing, and ischemic stroke/reperfusion injury; and the development of novel neuroprosthetic and neuromodulation strategies for brain disorders such as implantable micromagnetic coil‑based microdevices for vision restoration and epilepsy.

Responsibilities - Perform microsurgeries to implant chronic cranial windows in transgenic mice.

- Train mice and perform two‑photon imaging in awake mice as part of a longitudinal study.
- Conduct mouse stroke surgery and contribute to data analysis.

Qualifications Essential





- PhD in Neuroscience or Biomedical Engineering.
- Highly experienced in two‑photon imaging.
- Active interest in brain vascular research.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in teams.
- Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable

- Experience or knowledge of animal surgery and neuroscience experiments. Place of Employment Department of Neuroscience, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. Modern laboratories and a dynamic, international research environment. Terms of Employment - Average weekly working hours: 37 hours per week.
- Fixed‑term position limited to 1 year, starting 1 Oct 2026.
- Salary: monthly starting at 39 000 DKK (≈ 5 217 EUR) as of April 2026, with potential supplement based on qualifications.
- Employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.
