The Senior Enterprise Architect role is intended to align architecture support to a specific application or technology suite, and support the application or technology suite through any internal or external impacts. This role will contribute towards defining and driving an application or technology area to the target state architecture. This is an individual contributor role that aligns to one or more application or technology areas within a sub‑domain such as Digital, Integration, Care Center, or Core Applications.

This role will also work with various IT and business stakeholders and provide leadership on key technology initiatives.

Senior Enterprise

Architects are expected to cultivate and maintain relationships with manager level leaders within IT in support of their aligned areas. This role will be called upon to onboard and mentor less experienced architects. More specifically, this position is for a broad architecture role with a focus on Data and Business Architecture.

Architects in this role are expected to have solid data architecture experience at both the strategic and technical end of the spectrum. Expertise in enterprise data concepts such as data modeling (both transactional and analytical), data lakes, data governance, data stream processing, as well as familiarity with tools such as MicroStrategy, Azure data‑related services, Snowflake, Rocket, Databricks, and other similar tools would be important. This role would also contribute into the creation of Business Architecture artifacts such as Capability/Operational models and Value Stream modeling as well as being involved in aligning the latest technologies in the data space with business goals.

Coordination with program and project managers, application owners, and other architects is necessary to successfully align on the approach and execution. Flexibility to take on new, unfamiliar challenges with a positive attitude is desired.

Essential Job

Functions - Enterprise Architecture – Develop and maintain current state and target state architecture for an application or technology area in alignment with the strategy and direction of business or technology capabilities that are impacting the application or technology area aligned. Accountable for program and project architecture across enterprise‑wide initiatives typically involving custom development across multiple applications and/or significant third‑party assessments, integrations, and implementations.

- Architecture Planning and Project Support – Participate in business and IT planning for an application or technology area. Create architectural documentation to support the target state architecture based on planned initiative(s). Promote alignment across business and technology areas around initiatives and assist with estimation and prioritization. Participate and lead architecture delivery in projects that impact the aligned application or technology area.
- Architecture Governance – Ensure that the application or technology area meets both the functional and non‑functional requirements. Manage application capacity and performance models. Document and manage technical debt / risk related to the application or technology area.



Provide thought leadership within the supported application/technology area in driving various strategies and in solving complex issues. Work closely with the technical teams in ensuring architectural standards are adhered to and any exceptions are documented and managed as technical debts.
- Documentation – Produce and maintain a library of reference architecture documentation.

This includes but is not limited to: electronic diagrams, written requirements, roadmaps, and guidance. Perform periodic reviews of deployed solutions to ensure solution health and compliance to reference architectures and take appropriate measures to correct deficiencies.

- Technical Debt Management – Manage the technical debt that is introduced or mitigated through programs and projects in an application or technology area.
- Professional Advancement – Contribute to the Architecture Profession capability by helping to improve Bread Financial architecture practice and reference architectures. Participate in internal and external architecture communities and organizations that help improve Bread Financial architecture profession, or specific architecture domains and technology capability.
- Human Relations – Ability to diffuse problematic situations and manage through conflict resolution. Utilizes soft skills such as selective agreement, reflective listening, voice inflection, and empathy. Ability to take complex concepts and break down into layman’s terms or analogies that help with others’ understanding. Viewed as an enabling partner that provides options or information when saying no to business or IT requests. Seen by leadership and peers as credible, trustworthy and respectful. Utilizes subject matter expertise to guide and coach less experienced team members.
- Technical Knowledge and Application – Expectation is to be proficient in at least three applications, preferably five, and at least two, preferably three, major technology platforms / ecosystems such as Java, mobile development, integration and API management, Cobol, mainframe, etc.
- Scope of Role – Expectation is to support between 25 and 45 business capabilities across an application area or technology area. Complexity of the application or technology area is medium to high relative to the number of integrations, processes, etc.

- Wilmington, DE Minimum Qualifications - Five or more years in Information Technology Preferred Experience - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field.




- TOGAF Certification - Three or more years IT Architecture Compensation Typical starting range: $120,500.00 – $218,300.00 Full salary range by state:
- California: $138,600.00 – $272,900.00 - Colorado: $120,500.00 – $229,200.00 - New York: $132,500.00 – $272,900.00 - Washington: $126,500.00 – $251,100.00 Benefits Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long‑term disability) to eligible associates (regular full‑time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and children under the age of 26. New associate elective coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6‑month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180‑day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan. All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Adaptable Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year.

Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO. Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase of company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
