Full Professor in Psychology in the Area of Criminology and Violent Extremism
Overview
The Department of Psychology at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a permanent, full-time Full Professor position in Criminology and Violent Extremism, starting 1 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The role aims to strengthen the department’s research and teaching profile, link academic activities with societal needs, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration within the Faculty of Social Sciences and across the university.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct world‑class research and publish in leading journals;
- Develop and deliver high‑quality courses and supervise students;
- Lead and participate in interdisciplinary projects, especially those connected with the Copenhagen Centre for Criminology;
- Contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university through teaching, research, and academic leadership;
- Support the implementation of the department’s strategy and help shape shared goals;
- Engage regularly with colleagues and students in Copenhagen, requiring on‑site presence.
Qualifications and Competencies
Applicants must meet the University of Copenhagen’s criteria for academic merit, including research, teaching, innovation & societal impact, organisational contribution, and leadership. Specific requirements are:
- Outstanding research record in criminology, violent extremism, radicalisation, or terrorism, with evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration;
- Evidence of high‑quality teaching and commitment to student learning and welfare;
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills;
- Commitment to societal impact and the dissemination of research;
- English proficiency; Danish proficiency to be attained within 3–6 years, with language training provided.
Terms of Employment
- Permanent appointment with progression determined by personal merit;
- Salary in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne); monthly salary currently DKK 60,354 plus 18.07% pension contribution;
- Annual negotiations for additional supplements are possible;
- Special tax scheme available for researchers recruited from abroad.

Any co‑authored work should clearly specify the applicant’s contribution. A signed statement from co‑authors may be requested.
