The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a three‑year position as associate professor in bioorganic and systems chemistry. The position will start on 1 January 2027 and end on 28 February 2030.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop chemically regulated molecular assemblies to advance understanding of the chemical basis of life and to foster transformative development of new materials.
- Create new metabolism‑like reaction cycles or reaction cascades that kinetically control the generation of non‑equilibrium molecular assemblies able to utilize and dissipate chemical energy.
- Focus on bioorganic synthesis, thiol‑based reaction cycles, and cascades such as thioesterification/hydrolysis reaction cycles, non‑equilibrium molecular self‑assembly, and chemical principles relevant to the origin and mechanisms of life.
- Bridge traditional bioorganic chemistry with systems chemistry to construct life‑like complex chemical systems.
- Engage in research‑based teaching, knowledge sharing with society,
and translate high‑level science into tangible societal impact.
- Conduct own research, develop the field, prepare assessment tasks, apply for grants, and manage research activities including supervision and training of research fellows and staff.
